This is Errtu, the Balor from Dungeon and Dragons Legend of Drizzt. Julie still has a few more parts to paint before the miniature is complete. She decided to go a different direction with the Balor by painting it grey instead of red. I really like how it is turning out so far. She did some subtle object source lighting (OSL) effects on the Balor to make the fire whip appear to have a more realistic glow.
This is Methil El-Viddenvelp, the Illithid / Mind Flayer, from Dungeon and Dragons Legend of Drizzt. I painted the cape black with blue highlights. The rest of the robes were black with grey highlights.
This is Shimmergloom, the Shadow Dragon, from Dungeon and Dragons Legend of Drizzt. I painted a base coat of dark maroon over the entire dragon; I really wanted the flesh of the dragon under the scales to be dark maroon. From there, I dry-brushed the dragon's scales with a deep turquoise, progressing to lighter and lighter shades for the highlights. I also added some brighter maroon on the wings to help show the contour of the skin. I painted the eye with several coats of pure red paint. Then I highlighted the eye with brighter shades of red progressing up to an almost pure white. This gave a slight glowing effect to the eyes. In this picture you can also see the maroon skin showing under the neck scales. Shimmergloom's rumpety-rump. :)
I painted Artemis Entreri from Dungeons and Dragons Legend of Drizzt. I used a lot of dry brushing to highlight the leather. I also painted a gradient from black to grey on the cloak to add highlights.
I painted the Goblin Archers from Dungeons and Dragons Legend of Drizzt. I used a lot of dark washes to add shadow and a more grungy appearance.
I painted Regis, the Halfling Rogue, from Dungeons and Dragons Legend of Drizzt. Regis was pretty difficult to paint since he is actually even smaller than a Goblin (which is already half the size of a normal monster/hero miniature). I chose to add a lot more color to Regis to give him more of a noble/wealthy appearance. I was really happy with how he turned out.
Julie painted the last Hunting Drake from Dungeons and Dragons Legend of Drizzt. She went with a purple theme to coordinate with the blue and green Hunting Drakes that we had previously painted.
I painted Wulfgar, the Human Barbarian, from Dungeons and Dragons Legend of Drizzt. In the books, he is supposed to be a blonde-haired, blue-eyed barbarian. But, I thought I would mix things up. I think he looks pretty awesome with the dark skin tone and hair. I used a lot of dry-brushing on his fur clothing. I also went for a weathered rock look for his hammer. Julie painted the Yochlol (Handmaiden of Lolth) from Dungeons and Dragons Legend of Drizzt. It was surprisingly difficult to get an even color gradient using a paintbrush to give it a smooth, slimy appearance. I painted the first Goblin Archer, the last Goblin Cutter, and the last Spider Swarm from Dungeons and Dragons Legend of Drizzt. |
