We cut out a rectangle of foam matching the dimensions of the interior of the bottom of the file box. For each additional tray, we had to re-measure the dimensions to measure the slightly larger rectangle needed to fill the space due to the slight slope of the filing box.
Before cutting, we placed the miniatures for that layer on top of the foam and traced their outline. This gave us a guide for how much foam we needed to cut out to comfortably fit each miniature. | After cutting out the traced outlines, we placed the miniatures inside to determine any fine adjustments that were needed to avoid any tighter spaces. |
We continued this process for 3 more trays. To keep track of which miniatures go on which tray, we set them on the corresponding craft foam bases. Each craft foam base was cut to fit its corresponding foam tray.
Artemis and the Drider were mid-paint-job, so they were still on their painting bases (we use spice containers to make them easier to hold while painting).
After all of the trays were cut, we glued the craft foam to the bottom of each foam tray. We let the trays dry and then wrote the names of each miniature on the craft foam to make it easier to put them away in the correct compartment.
